One of our residents, quoted in the CQC report.
Involving our residents in everything we do
We aim to give every resident an excellent quality of life during their stay with us. We make sure residents are well cared for, supported and enjoy their time here. Privacy and dignity are very important to us.
We hold regular residents meetings, where staff and residents meet to discuss new ideas and have their say on relevant issues.
Whatever your interests, you’ll find something to enjoy at Abbotts Court. We have a full activities programme, with something to appeal to everyone. We have an activities room, a home baking room and a sensory room. There’s also a private garden where residents can get some fresh air and enjoy the sunshine. There’s always something interesting going on here!
“We can never thank you enough for all the love and care given over the last 9 years. Through good times and bad the staff have always been there to support and comfort.”
A resident’s relative
Our facilities are designed to work for all our residents...
We are set in the beautiful village of Wheatley Hill in County Durham. We’re surrounded by incredible scenery, and we like to take our residents out to enjoy the local area as much as possible. We have our own minibus and often take trips out, including to the local tea room, Beamish museum and Seaton Carew.
We have our very own sensory room. This is particularly popular with our residents with learning difficulties, who love the sensory experience. We also have our own salon, with a hairdresser who comes in a couple of times a week.
There’s always something exciting happening at Abbotts Court. Our activities room offers daily entertainment, including bingo, raffles, tea parties, celebrating special occasions and we’ve even had a small petting zoo! We have a home baking room where residents can get involved in baking tasty treats. We even arrange for a singer to come entertain us all once a month.
Our vicar visits us weekly to deliver church services for our residents with religious beliefs.
Each resident at Abbott’s Court has a personal care plan, which includes any input residents wish to make, as well as that of their doctor or other specialist. We update care plans regularly to ensure they accurately reflect each resident’s needs.
Our expert staff are on hand 24 hours a day. Our carers treat all residents with privacy and dignity, offering the highest standards of care. They ensure everyone’s needs are not only met, but that their stay with us is enjoyable and actively enhances their quality of life.
Delicious Home Cooked Food
We know the importance of freshly cooked, delicious food. We cook all of our food fresh each day, offering our residents a range of meal options. If a certain dish is requested we’ll do what we can to make it for them.
Our chef and kitchen assistants make sure everyone receives nutritious food that tastes great. There is always plenty of choice available, including a good selection for residents with special dietary requirements.
